Why you should not choose a centrifugal model for juicing greens

Looking for a juicer for greens? Take a closer look at auger models: they are easy to use and great for processing not only leaves and sprouts of plants, but also the seeds, and even nuts. What distinguishes auger devices is the fact that they operate at low speeds, without heating the products, and, therefore, these products retain maximum health benefits.

Delicious Green Juice

In my today’s post, I’ll tell you about what types of juicers are suitable for juicing the greens. We will discuss some of the features of these devices and rules of using them. Here you will find reviews of the best juicers for leafy greens as well as a comprehensive buyer’s guide:

The juicer that operates on centrifugal force, due to the high speed of rotation, heats up the contents of the centrifuge. This technique is perfect for obtaining juice from tomatoes or fruits with seeds. Centrifugal juicers work great when you need a lot of juice, quickly.

But there is a difficulty when processing the greens: during cooking most of the products lose at least half of their nutritional value due to oxidation. That is why centrifugal models are not recommended for juicing leafy greens.

It is necessary to choose juicers for greens exclusively from the auger models.

The features of horizontal auger juicers include multifunctionality and an ability to press herbs, greens, sprouts, and leafy vegetables: Brussels sprouts, spinach and celery, cabbage, dandelion greens, carrot and beet tops, mint, basil, lettuce, scallion, sorrel and many other kinds of healthy plants.

Since greens and sprouts contain much less moisture than vegetables and fruits, it is impossible to obtain juice from them in an ordinary centrifugal juicer: what you will get is a green mass heated due to the rotation of the blades and without benefits for your health.

The amount of juice you can get from quality models of auger juicers can measure up to 40% of the greens loaded in the juicer!

To get as much juice as possible, it is recommended that you pre-soak the greens in cold water for half an hour. Just a bundle of carrot and beet tops and parsley processed in the auger juicer can get you a glass of delicious and very healthy beverage.

It is advisable to put the solid parts (stems) of the tops first. To avoid accumulation of greens around the upper part of the auger, you should alternate them with hard fruits, for example, with apples or carrots. A special rim of the auger juicer prevents the unpressed leaves from getting into a ready beverage.

To avoid sprouts or such greens as spinach, for instance, from clustering in the juicer, use models that do not have a very wide throat or simply try to control placing the greens into the appliance without throwing them there in bunches.
