Why I am not a normal Gen Xer

Well I may never have been

The dictionary definition of Gen Xer is ‘born between around 1966 to 1980…after the novel by Douglas Copeland, a German born Canadian artist and novelist’ [1]

The more I read about Gen Xers, the less I feel like one. We are the parents of Millennials (tick), and ‘Zoomers’ (tick), we are children of ‘Baby Boomers’ who are children of ‘The Silent Generation’.

Well not quite. My grandmother was very silent, but she was born in 1920 and gave birth to my mum late in life.

I often wonder what happens to these people who don’t easily fit into categories and slip through the net. Where do they go?

I am writing this in an attempt to get my brain cells moving after a bout of covid. I am still positive on the test, but the headache comes and goes now so maybe I am on the mend and will soon become coherent again. Hence me showing up to the page, which is all I can do. I am being slowed down so maybe I will pen something that doesn’t need too many corrections.

I have never been someone who likes raves, that was my sister’s era. She is only 2 years younger than me, but we enjoyed completely different music. I liked Madness, Grace Jones, Terry Hall, UB 40, Michael Jackson, The Eurythmics... I went to concerts, my sister went to raves.
