Cheaters Never Prosper

To my knowledge of relationships in the past, cheating gets you nowhere. Neither does lying or going somewhere you shouldn’t. But according to this Contemporary R&B song, “I should have cheated” by Keyshia Cole, it’s okay to express in a song; let me just add that this song was playing in my little sisters room as she was singing along to it…..

This song made me feel completely disgusted because not only was it giving whatever relationship she’s talking about a negative feel but also she has listeners of this song.

The chorus is absolutely terrible, “I might as well have cheated on you, As much as you accused me of cheating, I might as well lied to you as much as you accused me of lying, I might as well have gone to the club, As much as you accuse me of clubbing….” You get the point. It 100% shows how little of class this song has.

The verse, “…Realize that I would never do anything to disrespect you” definitely proves how ignorant this song is. I understand more of this song how this girl probably is hurt from this guy accusing her, but the immaturity that takes place it just makes this song sound like she has 0 respect for this guy. No person should ever think that cheating would resolve problems.

Honestly though, this song is mainly trashing men in how their insecurities can impact a relationship. What doesn’t make sense is that the song mainly talks about the guy’s insecurities, and not the girls. Implying that girls don’t have trust issues or assumptions, just guys.
